1. Who we are
Lassina is a digital media intelligence service for exploring publicly available information about channels, publishers, videos and media trends. The operator and data controller is Lassina. You can reach us at woldekirstos@gmail.com.
2. Scope
This notice explains how we handle personal data when you visit our site, create an account, search our services, contact us or appear in information indexed by the service. We may publish public statistics, rankings and research.
3. Information we collect
- Account data: name, email address, organisation (if you give one), password (stored only as a salted hash) or, if you sign in with Google, your Google account identifier, sign-in sessions, account plan and roles, and the versions of these Terms and this policy you accepted, with the date.
- Service use: saved channels, notes and searches, and technical logs needed to operate and protect accounts.
- Communications: contact requests and support correspondence.
- Device and site data: IP address, browser, request metadata, security logs and essential session cookies.
- Public-channel data: where enabled and permitted, channel IDs, public titles and handles, publication dates, channel metadata, subscriber/view/video statistics, country or topic labels, source links and timestamps. A public channel can identify a person and may therefore be personal data.
We do not intentionally request special-category personal data for advertising or profile individuals by protected characteristics.
4. Sources of information
We obtain account details from you; technical information from normal service operation; and channel or video data from lawful public or authorised third-party sources, including YouTube API Services where integrated.
5. Purposes and lawful bases
We process account and service information to provide requested access and functionality (contract, where appropriate); maintain security and prevent misuse (legitimate interests and/or legal obligations); respond to messages (contract or legitimate interests); meet legal requirements (legal obligation); and use non-essential analytics or marketing cookies only where required consent is obtained.
For indexed public-channel information and derived research, we rely on our legitimate interests in providing media research, statistics and rankings, balanced against the interests and rights of the people concerned. We do not treat public availability as consent. Channel owners can object, or ask us to correct or remove information, as described under Your rights and choices.
6. YouTube and Google data
Lassina may use YouTube API Services to retrieve authorised YouTube-related information. Use of those services is subject to applicable YouTube policies. YouTube’s Terms are at https://www.youtube.com/t/terms and Google’s Privacy Policy at https://policies.google.com/privacy.
Google Sign-In (below) confirms who you are; it does not link your YouTube account or give us access to it, and no account linking is implied by ordinary browsing.
7. Google Sign-In
If you choose to sign in to Lassina using your Google Account, Google authenticates your identity and, under the openid, email and profile permissions only, provides us with your Google account’s unique identifier, name, email address, email verification status and profile image. We use these details to create or identify your Lassina account and to keep you signed in. If your Google email address matches an existing Lassina account, we link your Google account to it. A new account is created only after you accept our Terms of Service and confirm you have read this policy.
We store your Google account identifier; for a new account we also store the name you confirm and your email address. We check the email verification status but do not store it, and we do not store your profile image or any Google access or refresh token. Google Sign-In does not give us access to your Gmail messages, Google Drive files, YouTube Studio analytics or Google account password.
We do not sell Google Sign-In data or use it to target advertising, and we do not share it with anyone; it is stored in the website’s database on our hosting provider’s server. Signing in through Google is optional for members, who can also use an email address and password. Lassina staff sign in to our content management system with Google only.
You can disconnect Lassina from your Google Account at https://myaccount.google.com/connections. Revoking access stops future Google sign-ins but does not delete your Lassina account or the information already stored. To delete your account, use your Account page or contact woldekirstos@gmail.com.
10. International transfers
Lassina’s website and database run on a server in Germany, in the European Economic Area. We do not transfer personal data outside the UK/EEA ourselves; if that changes, we will apply legally required safeguards and update this policy. When you sign in with Google, Google processes that sign-in under its own privacy policy.
11. Retention
- Member accounts are kept until you delete your account (from your Account page) or ask us to. Deletion is immediate and includes your projects, saved channels, notes and searches. We keep no backups of the website’s database, so deleted data is not held elsewhere.
- Staff accounts are kept until an administrator removes them.
- Sign-in sessions last up to 7 days for members and 8 hours for staff. Expired sessions and expired password-reset links (valid for 1 hour) are deleted within a day.
- Contact enquiries are deleted automatically 12 months after we receive them.
- Server logs (web server access logs with IP address, browser and page requested, and the website’s application logs) and copies of account emails such as password-reset messages are deleted after 30 days.
- Public platform data is kept only while authorised and necessary, subject to source-specific refresh and deletion rules.
12. Security
We use appropriate organisational and technical controls such as access restrictions, encrypted transport, secure authentication and logging. No internet service is perfectly secure. Users should protect their account credentials.
13. Your rights and choices
Depending on your jurisdiction and the processing involved, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction or portability, object to certain processing, withdraw consent where used, and complain to a relevant supervisory authority (such as the UK Information Commissioner’s Office). You can delete your account yourself at any time from your Account page. To exercise other rights, contact woldekirstos@gmail.com. We may request reasonable identity verification. We will respond according to applicable law.
If you are a channel owner or identifiable individual featured in our dataset, you may contact us about accuracy, objection or removal. Requests will be assessed under applicable law and source terms.
14. Children
Lassina is intended for adults aged 18 or over. We do not knowingly offer registered accounts to anyone under 18. Public channel data may include child-directed content labels, which are not proof of a viewer’s or creator’s age.
15. Automated analysis
Some channel categories, scores or research findings may be produced using automated processing or AI. Where active, we will explain material methods, sources, confidence and how inaccuracies can be challenged. We do not use such assessments to make solely automated decisions with legal or similarly significant effects on people without the safeguards required by law.
16. Changes
We may update this policy when our service or processing changes. We will display the revised date and give additional notice or obtain consent where law requires.
